Psalms News

News as of July 2010.
Robert is currently hard at work on his next two shows, a new musical, Mother Earth, and a follow up to "Psalms" a new piece based on the 10 commandments.
Both will have perfomances in 2011

Extracts from the Psalms CD are on the Psalms page, and also the music page, the CD is now out on all download sites.

Psalms has now finished touring, however, if you would like to perform Psalms at your church, please contact me. Psalms is around one hour 20 mins long (Although this can be shortened to fit into a service), and can be put on with as few performers as 6 or as many as you want. The music can be performed on a solo piano, or a small band of say four players, or more depending what you have available.

Below are comments from the Psalms tour.
Psalms was very well recieved at the 2008 Edinburgh festival where it fininshed its two year tour.

Five Stars.
This show was fantastic. It was very moving, a brilliant interpretation of the psalms that would certainly appeal to the younger generation

The Psalms performances try to give the Psalms an everyday meaning through Drama and song.

Remember you can hear extracts from Psalms on the music page.
I have now added a Psalms contents page to the web site which has the lyrics to all the songs, the story behind "Psalms" and some photos from the performances.

What’s also been said about Psalms by those who’ve seen it.

Some people may have lost the sense of the actual basis of their commitment to the mystery of life. "Psalms" seeks to re-acquire and re-acquaint people with a sense of awareness to this mystery. Through word, song and drama an innovative interpretation of the psalms, by Robert Barham, graphically draws people to make sense of their experience of life and interpret where they are and where they perhaps they could be....

Fr Anthony Parsons - St Josephs Church Chalfont St Giles.

This is an excellent new musical , performed in a simple setting by just a few dedicated actors, singers and musicians., Of circumstances with which we are all too familiar, they give a very relevant interpretation of the Biblical Psalms as they apply to our own living experiences of frustration, joy, sadness, despair, celebration etc.

Mervin Brown -Organist South Harrow Methodist Church

This musical performance brings the Psalms into the modern day experience in a variety of moods: - joy, sadness, despair, loneliness, celebration, praise etc.

The music is varied and catches the mood of each piece. It is presented in a very simple yet imaginative way.

Many of the songs are extremely moving and speak directly to the problems and fears of modern day living.

It is an opportunity to introduce those who would not usually appreciate or understand the message of the Psalms to their power and depth and for those who know the Psalms well a chance to experience them in a new and challenging way

Tess Maddin -Wealdstone Church Circuit coordinator.
